Taznakht occupies the middle of several major roads, where the growth of rural and cultural tourism co-exists, while conceiving both ancient and renowned carpet art.
Tazenakht is a major carpet weaving center, using wool from Siroua’s sheep breeding. For centuries, the Ouaouzguite carpet (now widely known as “Taznakht carpet”) was always the number one practice of the tribes and their main financial resource.
The skilled weavers of this precious Moroccan Amazigh heritage are now heavily promoted on local and international markets, particularly in large cities such as Marrakech, Rabat, Ouarzazate, Agadir…
Women’s cooperatives for the promotion of the Taznakht carpet are located near the village’s entrance. When a carpet is sold, the weaver receives payment.
During your visit, you will learn about the various weaving methods, the main decorative symbols of the carpets and the meaning of each motif (timri, timzin, titn’tsakourt…), the use of colors, the twisted and colored strings used in the carpet weaving (called “Zguite”), the famous Uzguita carpets with an orange frame, the style of each fraction, and so on.
