All Roads Lead to Draa-Tafilalet!


Visitors who want to discover the wonders of the Draa-Tafilalet Region can do so via a variety of means and routes. Whether by air or on-road, transportation fits all budgets, regardless of the point of departure.

By plane

Routes to the Draa-Tafilalet Region are extremely long, and the roads are twisting and difficult to understand due to the region’s geographical location. As a result, flying is the most efficient way to get there.

Internal direct flights:

To Ouarzazate:

  • Mohammed V Casablanca Airport (CMN)  Ouarzazate Airport (OZZ) in 3h30 flight.

To Errachidia:

  • Mohammed V Casablanca Airport (CMN)  Moulay Ali Cherif Errachidia Airport (ERH) in 3h50 flight.

To Zagora:

  • Mohammed V Casablanca Airport (CMN)  Zagora Airport (OZG) in 1h55min flight.

Flights to Marrakech:

  • Mohammed V Casablanca Airport (CMN)  Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) in 50min flight, then by road to Ouarzazate.
  • Agadir-Al Massira Airport (AGA)  Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) in 1h26min flight, then by road to Ouarzazate.
  • Fes-Säiss Airport (FEZ)  Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) in a 1hour flight, then by road to Ouarzazate.
  • Tangier-Ibn Batouta Airport (TNG)  Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) in 1h10min flight, then by road to Ouarzazate.

By car:

The journey by car is an experience in and of itself. Regardless of where your departure point is, the route offers beautiful scenery and incredible experiences. Drives are mostly on national roads, passing through the Anti-Atlas, the Grand Atlas, rich plains, and arid plateaus.

You must be prepared for a true road trip: know your routes carefully, examine your vehicle, plan rest and refueling stops… It is also highly advised not to pick up hitchhikers or stop at the request of others. If you come across a situation that requires intervention, you should report it to the authorities.

Here is a selection of the best routes to take to reach the Draa-Tafilalet Region.

From Casablanca

To Errachidia

  • By bus: a direct journey between 10 and 11 a.m. Cost from 250 to 350 MAD.
  • By car: 535 km, 8 hours of driving on average via the A8 to Kasbah Tadla, then by the N8 and the R503 to reach Zaida and continue on the N13. From there you will pass through Midelt and Er-rich before reaching Errachidia. The N13 continues to Merzouga via Erfoud Er-Rissani.

To Ouarzazate

  • By train to Marrakech, then by bus: from 8 a.m. to 10 am. Cost from 200 to 300 MAD.
  • By bus: With a stopover in Marrakech. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost from 250 to 350 MAD
  • By car: 440 km, 7 hours of driving on average via the A7 to Marrakech, then the N9 through the Toufliht forest, and via the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass that reaches 2260m. The N9 then passes through Zagora and ends at M’Hamid El Ghizlane.

P.S.: the N10 connects Ouarzazate and Errachidia, passing through Tinghir and Goulmima.

To Midelt

  • By bus to Azrou then Grand Taxi to Midelt: Duration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Cost from 350 to 500 MAD.
  • By Car: 397 km, 5h to 6h driving via the A8 to Kasbah Tadla, then by the N8 and R503 to Zaida, then the route N13 to the destination. The road crosses the central High Atlas, skims the foothills of the Anti-Atlas, passing through forests and massifs.

The N13 continues to Errachidia and ends in Merzouga.

From Agadir

To Errachidia

  • By bus: With a stopover in Marrakech and Ouarzazate. Duration of 16h (with 6h of correspondence). Cost from 230 to 300 MAD
  • By car: it is a challenging trip of 663 km, and 12 hours driving on average. Take the P1706 to Aït Melloul then P1706. Then the N10 for more than 300Km to reach Ouarzazate. Continue on the N10 following the 1000 Kasbah road to your destination, passing through Skoura, Boumlane Dades, Tinghir, and Goumima.

To Ouarzazate

  • By bus: With a stopover in Marrakech. Duration from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (with 4 hours of correspondence). Cost from 230 to 300 MAD.
  • By car: 358 km, 6 to 7 hours driving on average. Take the P1706 to Aït Melloul then P1706. Then the N10 for more than 300Km to reach the destination via Taznakht. From here, it is possible to take the R108 (the mine road) to join the N9 towards Zagora.

P.S.: the N10 connects Ouarzazate and Errachidia, passing through Tinghir and Goulmima.

To Midelt

  • By bus to Khenifra with a change in Marrakech than by a Grand Taxi to Midelt: Duration of 12 hours only, connections not included. Cost from 280 to 330 MAD.
  • By Car: 671 km, 9 to 10 hours of driving. Via the A7 to Marrakech, then the P2108 to Kelaat Seraghna. From there, continue on the N8 and the R503 to Zaida, then on the N13 to the destination. The N13 continues to Errachidia and ends in Merzouga.

From Marrakech

To Ouarzazate

  • By bus: A direct journey of 200km in 5 hours. Cost from 65 to 95 MAD.
  • By car: 358 km, 6 to 7 hours driving on average. Via the N9 over the Tizi n’Tichka pass to the destination. It is possible to take the P1506 from Aguelmouss to start the 1000 Kasbahs route and visit the Ounila valley.

The N9 continues to Mhamid El Ghizlane via Zagora.

To Errachidia

  • By bus: With exchange in Ouarzazate. Duration of 12 hours (with 4 hours of correspondence). Cost from 230 to 300 MAD.
  • By car: 500 km, an average of 8 hours driving. Via the N9 to Ouarzazate, and then the N10 (the 1000 Kasbah road) to the destination, passing through Skoura, Boumlane Dades, Tinghir and Goulmima.

To Midelt

  • By bus: A direct journey to Khenifra, then a Grand Taxi to Midelt: Duration 8h30min, connection not counted. Cost from 250 to 300 MAD.
  • By Car: 412 km, 6 to 7 hours of driving. Follow the N8 to Zaida (the road changes to R503 in sections), then take the N13 to the destination. The N13 continues to Errachidia and ends in Merzouga.

From Meknes

To Ouarzazate

  • By train to Casablanca and then from Marrakech by bus: Duration of 11 hours with 4 hours of correspondence on average. Cost from 220 to 400 MAD.
  • By bus with a change in Casablanca. Duration of 14h correspondence included. Cost from 240 to 350 MAD.
  • By car option 1: 670km, 8h to 9h driving on average. Via the A2 and N6 to Rabat, then the A5 and A1 to Casablanca. From there you can join the A7 via the N11 to reach Marrakech. The N9 then takes over and crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass directly to the destination. The N9 continues to Mhamid El Ghizlane via Zagora.
  • By car option 2: 640 km, 11 hours of driving on average. Via the N13 to Errachidia, and then via the N10 via Tinghir.

To Errachidia

  • By train to Casablanca, then directly by bus. Duration 13 hours, connections not counted. Cost from 250 to 400 MAD.
  • By bus: With an exchange in Ouarzazate. Duration of 12 hours (with 4 hours of correspondence). Cost from 230 to 300 MAD.
  • By car: 330 km, 6 hours of driving on average. Via the N13 to the destination, passing through Azrou, Zaida and Midelt.

P.S: the N10 connects Ouarzazate and Errachidia, passing through Tinghir and Goulmima.

To Midelt

  • By grand taxi: Direct journey with a stopover or a change in Azrou. Duration of 4 hours correspondence included. Cost between 100 and 150 MAD.
  • By Car: 200 km, 3 to 4 hours driving through the N13 to destination via Azrou and Midelt. The N13 continues to Errachidia and ends in Merzouga.

From Oujda

To Ouarzazate

  • By car with a change in Casablanca or Marrakech. Duration of 17h including connections. Cost between 160 and 200 MAD.
  • By car: 840 km, 11 hours of driving on average. Via the A2 and the N6 to Guercif. From there, take the N15 for more than 500 km to join the N13 at the exit of Midelt, then continue south to Errachidia. The 1000 Kasbahs road will then lead you to Ouarzazate on the N10, passing through Tinghir.

To Errachidia

  • By bus: With a change in Fez. Duration 17h and 5h of correspondence. Cost between 270 and 400 MAD.
  • By car: 535 km, 8 hours of driving on average. Via the A2 to the Taourir Ouest toll, then the N6 to Guercif. From there, take the N15 along Oued Moulouya for more than 500 km, to join the N13 at the exit of Midelt, to the destination.

To Midelt

  • By bus to Fez, then grand taxi: A duration of 8 hours, connections not included. Cost: 200 to 250 MAD.
  • By Car option 1: 500Km, 3h to 4h driving. Via the A2 and the N6 to Guercif, then the N15 for 250Km. At the end of the road take the N13 north to the destination.

From Beni Mellal

  • To Ouarzazate
  • By bus with a change in Marrakech. Duration of 9h, correspondence not included. Cost from 160 to 200 MAD.
  • By car: 324 km, 6 hours of driving on average. Via the N8 to Tamelelt, and then take the P2117 to join the N9 at Touama directly to the destination, driving by the forests of Tagargoust and Toufliht and crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The N9 continues to M’Hamid El Ghizlane via Zagora.

To Errachidia

  • By a grand taxi: With change at Kasbah Tadla and Midelt.
  • By car: 360km, 6 hours of driving on average. Via the N8 to Zaida. From there the N13 takes to the destination via Midelt.

To Midelt

  • By grand taxi: the journey is direct with a stopover or a change at Kasbah Tadla. Duration of 4 hours, correspondence not included. Cost from 100 to 150MAD.
  • By Car: 220Km, 3h to 4h driving. Via the N8 passing Kasbah Tadla and Aghbalou n’Cerdan to Zaida. From there the N13 takes to the destination and ends in Merzouga via Errachidia and Erfoud.
